Certified People. Auditable Reports.
What CGSB, CWB and AWS credentials mean for your project — and why they're on every CIC report.
Certifications & Quality at CIC
Certifications answer the first question any auditor asks: was the person who signed this qualified to sign it? CIC's technicians and inspectors carry the credentials Canadian codes are built around — CGSB for NDT methods, CWB and AWS for welding inspection — matched to the certification levels your project's code requires.
CGSB — Certified NDT Personnel
CGSB certification (through Natural Resources Canada's national certifying body) qualifies NDT personnel by method and level under CAN/CGSB-48.9712 — the Canadian implementation of the international personnel-certification standard. When a CIC technician performs UT, RT, MPI or LPI, their certification level matches the responsibility the code assigns: performing, interpreting, or approving.
CWB and AWS — Welding Inspection Credentials
Welding inspection on Canadian structural work runs through the CWB system (CSA W178.2 certified inspectors supporting CSA W59 acceptance and W47.1-certified fabricators); AWS credentials extend coverage to specifications written on American codes. CIC carries both, so cross-border specs and mixed-code projects don't require a second inspection vendor.
A Quality System Built for Audits
Certifications qualify people; a quality system disciplines the work. CIC operates documented procedures per method, calibration control on instruments, technician certification records on file, and report review before release — so when your client audits the inspection chain behind your project, the paper is ready before they ask.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does CGSB certified mean?
CGSB certification is Canada's national qualification for NDT personnel — technicians examined and certified by method (UT, RT, MPI, LPI) and by level of responsibility under CAN/CGSB-48.9712. It's how Canadian codes verify that the person testing your welds is qualified to judge them.
Can you provide certification records for our vendor file?
