The Lab Comes to the Problem

Mobile NDT crews across Alberta — scheduled site work and emergency response,
with certified results on the spot.

Mobile/Field NDT

Mobile NDT brings the inspection to the equipment: CIC field crews carry ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant, radiographic, hardness and PMI capability to plants, projects and breakdowns across Alberta. Since 1982 the rule has been simple — if it can't come to the lab, the lab goes to it.

Scheduled Site Work

Most field NDT is planned: weld inspection on an active fabrication or construction site, turnaround scopes, periodic thickness surveys on piping and vessels, crane and structural inspections on their annual cycle. CIC crews integrate with your schedule and your permit system, and results are reported before we leave site — not mailed later.

Emergency & After-Hours Response

Some field NDT is not planned. A crack found on nights, a failed lift, a weld repair that has to be proven before the line restarts — CIC responds around the clock, because breakdowns don't book appointments. One number reaches us at any hour: 780 468 4593.

What Travels Well — and What Doesn't

Field-capable: UT and thickness surveys, MPI, penetrant, radiography with proper controls, portable hardness, PMI, and visual and welding inspection. What still belongs in the lab: machined-specimen work — tensile, Charpy, metallography. The honest field company knows the difference, and when your job needs both, the same company runs both ends.

One Crew, Certified Results

Field work is only worth the trip if the paper holds: CGSB-certified technicians, calibrated instruments, and reports written to the same standard as shop work — because the auditor doesn't grade on a curve for weather. That's what mobile means at CIC: the location changes, the standard doesn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

What NDT methods can be done on site?

Ultrasonic testing and thickness surveys, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, radiography, portable hardness testing, PMI and welding inspection all travel. Lab-bound work is the machined-specimen kind — tensile, Charpy and metallography — which pairs with field findings when a repair needs full qualification.

Do you offer 24-hour or emergency NDT?

Yes. Breakdown welds, suspect cracks and restart inspections get after-hours response — call 780-468-4593 and describe the situation. Emergency scopes are triaged by consequence: what's stopped, what's at risk, and what result you need before work can continue.

Where do your crews travel?

Edmonton is home base, and crews work across Alberta and Western Canada — plants, mine sites, mills and project sites. Distance is a logistics question, not a barrier; tell us where the work is and we'll quote the mobilization with the inspection.
